Musings from the Small’s Room by Rudy (a gigantic, lovable rogue)

Great news, Matilda, Nala and Sarabi all found new homes! So, this week in part 2 I am going to introduce you to the rest of my piggy friends. If you missed part 1 showcasing my bunny friends you can find it here, https://www.apcsm.org/blog/musings-from-the-smalls-room-by-rudy-a-gigantic-lovable-rogue-2

We have several guinea pigs who came in as pairs, but it quickly became apparent that they really needed their own space. Toffee and Fudge, Slick and Slack, now reside in separate ‘apartments’. Toffee is an adventurer with a little bit of rogue thrown in, he has a small tear in his ear which only adds to his personality. He eagerly waits for our cleaners, sorry volunteers, to arrive each morning knowing that his door will soon be opened so he can get out and race around the room. He literally runs across the floor to go and say hi to all the piggies residing at the end of the room, but he never forgets to say a quick hello to us bunnies on the way past. If you are looking for a true man about town he is the piggy for you. Fudge is a little more refined, not quite as confident as Toffee he is happier to have a bit of a cuddle and explore at a bit of a slower pace. However, I would not want you to think that he is timid, we have a range of pigs at the moment and both Fudge and Toffee are the most outgoing. Slick is a charming little guy, just like Slack he is always on the lookout for a treat, fresh carrot or leaf of romaine. Both are quite vocal, letting you know that they could do with a snack! Slick and Slack are two cuties, they are both on the shyer side, so would probably benefit from a quieter home with a family that will give them time to come out of their shells. They are always happy to chat with their piggy neighbors and are sure to come flying out of their little houses when the refrigerator is opened!

Drumstick has been with us for quite a while, and I honestly don’t know why. What a handsome chap. Now he loves his food and that is apparent in his robust size! He can’t wait to find a home where you can lavish him with all the attention he deserves as well as an abundant supply of fresh veggies. Below Drumstick is Moonmochi, an attractive black and white pig who is finally starting to come out of his shell. Often found at the front of his cage checking out his neighbors and eagerly awaiting a visit from a volunteer, especially if they have some food! I am sure you are sensing a theme here, the way to a guinea pig’s heart is through their belly!!!

We have our newest resident next to Moonmochi. Pickle is a gorgeous little lady, unfortunately she came to us from a home where they spent no time with her. There is a diamond inside this piggy, but she is going to need some patience and time to give her the confidence to step outside her comfort zone. Right now she is happiest hiding in her little wooden house, but as I have said before it can be very overwhelming in our Smalls room, so I am sure we will start to see her shine in the coming days.  One of our shelter originals, Snickers, born at a shelter foster home this past summer is the last of a plethora of babies we had born at the shelter last year. He has quite a personality and is dying to meet a family who will give him a great home with lots of veggies and treats. Snickers, as his name suggests is a gorgeous combination of colors, he can be quite chatty but it only adds to his charm. Baby is the last of our pigs, he is a beautiful chap, all ruffly, he is a beauty to look at. On the quieter side, it by no means should make you think that he won’t make an excellent addition to any home. The bustle of the room doesn’t bring out the best in Baby, he would definitely love a quieter environment.

Now for other shelter news, there is definitely a smell of paint in the air. The dedicated staff have slowly and surely been moving from room to room, painting and updating as they go, can’t wait to see what bright and beautiful colors are chosen for our rooms remodel!! There is also a buzz in the air as planning events for the year gets into full swing, as well as our monthly bake sales, you can also be on the lookout for the book sale, plant sale, and some open houses, as well as bad pet drawings and lots of other fundraising events. So, lots of different ways for you to contribute to our little place in paradise and support all my animal friends.

Finally, don’t forget that there are still a lot of bunnies in the room, from the statuesque to the petite, something for everyone. Until next time, stay warm……
