Anonymous Donor Gifts New Dog Kennels to APCSM
August 2024 — Thanks to an incredibly generous anonymous donor, the APCSM will be renovating the shelter’s dog kennels! We are very excited about this project and the renovation will improve the living space for all dogs in our care.
Additionally, we are excited to re-launch our adoption initiative, Paws Toward Home. This fund is dedicated to covering adoption fees for our dogs, making it easier for them to find their forever homes. By contributing, you can cover the fee for a dog in our care and help them become more adoptable.
Donations to Paws Toward Home also support the transport of dogs from overcrowded shelters in the South to new homes here in Massachusetts.

APCSM Awarded Capital Grant for Building Project
July 2024 — We are thrilled to announce that the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts (APCSM) has been awarded a capital grant from the Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation. This generous grant will fund the much-needed renovation of our Humane Education Room, affectionately known as the "Ed Room."
The Ed Room is the heart of our building, hosting a variety of essential activities such as rabies clinics, dog training classes, staff training sessions, bake sales, book sales, and numerous educational programs. Over the years, as the building has aged, the Ed Room has required repairs and updates.
Thanks to this grant, the APCSM will receive brand-new flooring, fresh paint, new tables and chairs, and a state-of-the-art projector and screen for educational and fundraising purposes.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation for selecting APCSM as a grant recipient. We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity to enhance our facilities and continue serving our community effectively.
Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts (APCSM) Awarded Grant from Felicia Rose Grant Program
September 2023 — The APCSM is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $20,000 grant over two years from the Felicia Rose Grant Program. This grant, which will be allocated to the APCSM's "Life is Precious Fund," represents a significant step forward in the organization's ongoing efforts to provide essential medical treatment to animals under its care.
The Life is Precious Fund is a cornerstone of the APCSM's mission, serving as a lifeline for animals in need by covering a wide range of medical expenses. Whether it's a kitten with a broken paw or a dog suffering from a ruptured spinal disc, Life is Precious ensures that these animals receive the comprehensive care necessary to improve their quality of life before being placed in their forever homes.
In 2022, the APCSM expended over $37,000 on medical care beyond routine treatments. This substantial investment underscores the APCSM's commitment to the well-being of animals throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. With the support of the Felicia Rose Grant Program, the APCSM will have the resources needed to continue this crucial work and expand its capacity to provide medical care to an even larger number of animals in need.
The Felicia Rose Grant Program is renowned for its dedication to supporting organizations that make a tangible difference in the lives of animals. Their mission is to provide support to animal welfare nonprofits that focus on strengthening the human-animal bond, advocating for respect and kindness towards animals, and offering assistance to animals in need through services like sheltering, adoption, education, and medical care.
Kim Heise, Executive Director at the APCSM, expressed gratitude, saying, "We are profoundly grateful to the Felicia Rose Grant Program for their generous support of our Life is Precious Fund. This grant will significantly enhance our ability to provide essential medical care to our shelter animals, and it reaffirms our commitment to safeguarding the well-being of every animal that passes through our doors."
Charlie, a six-year-old female Pitbull, is one such animal that has been helped by the Life is Precious Fund. She arrived at the APCSM in early 2023 following the unfortunate passing of her owner. Upon consultation with a board-certified surgeon, it was determined that Charlie had suffered a tear of the cranial cruciate ligament, necessitating a surgical intervention known as a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO). Fortunately, thanks for the unwavering support of our generous supporters through Life is Precious, Charlie received the necessary surgery and has made an excellent recovery.
