Musings from the Small’s room by Rudy (a gigantic, lovable rogue)

We are settling into the New Year in the Small’s room, happy to report that both Abby and Princess, and Yoshie and Pookie were adopted last week. These mom and daughter duos are by now settling into their new homes, good luck to them. As we are starting a new year I thought that we should all reintroduce ourselves to everyone, some of us are kind of new, but a few of us have been at the shelter for many months now eagerly awaiting that family that will take us home.

So, let’s get started with me, Rudy, yes, I am on the larger size for a rabbit, but full of love and energy, equally happy lounging in my pen or exploring the small’s room. I have been here since the end of August and must admit I have come out of my shell a lot since being here, so if you are in the market for a handsome man in your life, I might just fit the bill. Enough about me there are currently four other rabbits in residence all younger than me and definitely smaller!

Gonzo came in with his brother Peter, who was adopted a little while back. Gonzo is a beautiful Lionhead bun, with just the best personality. He loves to have a cuddle, or just to sit near you and be petted. His favorite treat has got to be a cardboard box, which the rest of us find a little annoying. I mean I am all for chewing, ripping and digging, but does he really need to rip that box apart in the middle of the night!

Now onto Lila and Oakley these two beauties came in together, but seem happier with their own space, and let’s face it who doesn’t love a bit of personal space. Oakley has a lovely personality and is happy chatting with me from time to time, she currently resides next to me. I must admit because Lila is across the way I don’t talk with her as much, but for young bunnies they are both beautifully well mannered. It has to be said that Lila does seem to keep a tidier house than her sister though. Finally, on to Peanut, another Lionhead but a totally different coloring that Gonzo. Peanut, enjoys all her veggies and is usually one of the first to be up on her hind legs at the pen waiting for the morning snacks. She is a just a little bit younger than me, but like me still full of energy ready to race around at the drop of a hat. Peanut is a big fan of human attention, although secretly I think she just knows where her food is coming from.

So, I will give you a sneak peek at a couple of our guinea pig friends, there are still quite a lot in residence, eleven right now, so meeting them all this week might be a bit of guinea pig overload.  But who do you choose first, I think I will go with the adage age before beauty, but to be honest they are all super cute.  Nala and Sarabi joined us right after the holiday, so are two of our newest residents. They are a bonded pair, Nala is four, so the oldest by far of all our piggies. Both her and Sarabi are the sweetest little pair, they love to talk to Slick and Moonmochi who reside either side of their cage. Nala has the most beautiful black coat, and is always eager to say hello to all the staff and volunteers, closely followed by Sarabi who is never far from her side. The final introduction for this week, Matilda, who has literally just joined us at the shelter. Your heart will melt when you see this little angel, she adores being held and wants nothing more than a tickle and a bit of your time. She is still settling in here, we can be a tad overwhelming to the newbies! So, she is often found hanging out in her little house, but I think she just needs a little time to adjust to all the new smells, noises and neighbors. She is just a baby, and is enjoying her bountiful supply of fresh veggies, alfalfa and timothy hay, I just know she will sashay right into your heart if you take the time to meet her.

On a final note, Spazz found a furever home, so all that yelling to be heard from the hallway definitely paid off for her! We had a fabulous response to a shout out for guinea pig food, we are now well stocked for a month or two, we do still need newspapers though. I personally would love to find a home, but as the spokesbunny for the room I hope you take the time to check out all our bios on the website. We love it here, we are well fed, clean and much loved, but it is not quite a home. Next week we will meet the rest of the piggies so watch this space….
