Well, big news, Snickers, Fudge and Drumstick have all been adopted! Leaving me, Slick, in charge of our little blog as the longest resident (been here since December, but who’s counting).

A little bit about me, I am on the quieter side as far as guinea pigs go, I don’t mind having a cuddle, but the picking up part still freaks me out a bit. I have a new neighbor, Georgina, she is just the sweetest little thing. She was brought here from the Quincy Animal Shelter where she had been abandoned along with four other piggies. On my other side is Bailey, he was born last August, so is still finding his way in the world. He is a beautiful brown, with an adorable white belt around his middle. Now I have been here awhile as I said, but I can honestly say that I have never seen so many pairs of guinea pigs being surrendered. Pig Pig and Nelly were lucky enough to find a great home this past weekend, but we still have six other pairs of guinea pigs which makes for a lot of noise at feeding time. We also have several singles like myself. Georgina and Bailey I already mentioned, then there is Mustachio and Isabelle too. Not to be outdone we had six bunnies in here last week, but Lucinda went home with her new family just the other day. And we can’t forget the five birds out in the hallway. Herman, a 20 year old cockatiel is our most senior member at the moment.

I thought I would take a few minutes to talk about the benefits of adopting pairs of guinea pigs. First off, we are social little critters, and love to chat, play and sleep with a buddy. As someone very knowledgeable once said, in the same way you can’t eat just one potato chip, you can’t (or shouldn’t) adopt just one guinea pig. And here is a little-known fact for all of you out there, in Switzerland it is illegal to own only one of us!! In the wild we run in herds, I know that is not a word you would generally associate with critters our size, but it certainly is a lot of fun for us to be part of our own little herd. The biggest benefit of having two or more of us is that we just enjoy each other’s company, not that that means we don’t love interacting with our humans, but we are a lot more relaxed if we have a buddy. So please consider giving some of our pairs of guinea pigs a chance at finding a new home.

Now that summer is nearly upon us it is time for a lot more outdoor events to promote our little sanctuary. We are hosting a plant sale this coming weekend, alongside the ever-popular bake sale. And later this month (June 26th) we are going to be in Norton at Everett Leonard Park for their first ever Pet Day, hoping this will be a fantastic fundraiser for us. Our calendar fundraiser is also coming to a close this weekend, so make sure to check out the website and vote for your favorite pet picture. If you haven’t been by the shelter recently you will not have seen our rainbow of poop that is taking over the cat lounge windows, for every bag of litter donated a colorful poop is added to the window, we are so close to reaching our goal of 500 bags of litter.

Now back to the small animals, I bet you know what I am going to say? You guessed it. We are starting to run low on newspaper, so if you have some laying around your home then feel free to drop it by. We will certainly put it to good use, and if you have some spare romaine or the odd carrot you could send our way, we will love you even more.

I am going to close for now but remember to check out all our bios on the adoptable animal’s page of our website and hope you enjoy the video of our crowded little room.
