And the winner is Oreo, being at the shelter since July he is one of our longer residents. He is, as his name suggests, a black and white pig with a typical guinea pig temperament. Not averse to a snack of romaine, parsley or carrot, he also loves to wander around the small’s room whilst his cage is being cleaned. He is missing his friend, Curry, but loves to chat to Drumstick and Baby who are in cages either side of his. He would love a home with children, but any dynamic would be fine. So, without further ado I will hand it over to Oreo.

Happy Thanksgiving from the small’s room. I was honored this week to be chosen as the voice of our little part of the world, my goal is to share the happenings of the shelter as well as start introducing you to some of our residents, staff and volunteers. Today so many families, and people take the time to gather with loved ones, to laugh, to talk and to eat. In the small’s room we wanted to let you know what we are thankful for, this list is in order of importance to us.

Romaine, Parsley and Carrots

Warm comfy cages and pens

Loving staff and volunteers

All those that donate food

All those that donate blankets and towels

Those that share our bio’s, in the hope our furever family is out there somewhere

Those that spot an animal in need and rescue it

And finally to all those that are able to donate monetarily, you keep the heat on, the lights on and the water running, all vital to the operation of our little building. Giving Tuesday will be here before you know it, and we will be planning something special.

Now a little update, Millie found her furever home, and is now part of a family that includes other rabbits that were also adopted from our shelter. We have a few new bird residents and for a brief time we were also home to a sugar glider, one of our more exotic residents. We are seeing an increase in our cat resident count, so be sure to check out all their bio’s. We also have a lot of dogs looking for a loving family, it would be wonderful if you could help us spread the word. Spazz and Gumble, our little rodent friends, are still looking for families. Gumble is the sweetest little hamster, loving a cuddle and I am sure would make a fabulous first pet. As would Spazz, a fun loving energetic gerbil. I have it on good authority that gerbils are great little recyclers, when doing their cage cleaning there is nothing they love more than it to be filled with cardboard tubes, boxes and egg boxes to keep them busy making a whole new supply of bedding. If you are on the lookout for a baby animal, we can help there too. Sugar, Spice, and Abby are our youngest residents at just a couple of months old, closely followed by Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi, and Snickers who were all born this summer.

Well, I think that is all for this week. I will end with a quick thank you to Santa who graced us with his presence last Saturday and patiently sat through 3 hours of pet photographs. It is safe to say that fun was had by everyone involved, it was wonderful to welcome some visitors in to the shelter and see some of our previous residents who now have loving families. I hope all our staff, volunteers, donors and followers have a wonderful day, surrounded by those they love.
