Musings from the Smalls Room By Curry (a rather cute guinea pig!)
As you may, or may not, be aware guinea pigs are considered prey animals, which leads to that typical guinea pig behavior you may have witnessed. The burst of speed in the rush to hide as fast as possible when anything new enters our environment. Now, it isn’t that we don’t love those human’s who feed us and keep our homes nice and tidy, it is just a behavior we are born with. So, it will come as no surprise to learn that I am in fact quite a shy little pig, but this past week my introverted self was put to the test on several different occasions!
Firstly, let me introduce you to Trish, our fabulous Project & Development Coordinator. I believe that means she likes to spread the word about the shelter and organize events so they can buy us our food! Anyway, she is great, and I got to spend a lot of quality time with her this last week. Public Relations isn’t really my thing, but the two of us…. WOW…. what a team! We did a little segment for Brockton Community Television, then we were off outside for an hour in the great outdoors, at a Blessing of the Animals right here in Brockton. As if that wasn’t enough excitement for a weekend, I was whisked off again on Sunday to the Sheep Pasture’s Harvest Fair. That is a lot of socializing for an introvert, but I believe I played the role of small room ambassador well, and hopefully we will have lots of enquires in the coming days. Rudy, my rather large friend from across the way in the small’s room, also got to come to the Sheep Pasture. Which was really great, as Trish is fun and all, but we really don’t have a lot in common to talk about!
Big news at the shelter, Katie got a promotion, she is the beautician that comes in to make sure all our nails are neat and trimmed! She is now the assistant manager, hopefully she will still find time to have a little spa fun with us with all her new responsibilities.
Finally let me share some adoption updates, Ozzie and Alaska, Princess Peach and Maple all found their forever homes, and we are about to welcome some newbies into the smalls room. I also got word that one of our pregnant piggies had two babies last week, so they will be up for adoption soon. Check out our available animal’s page on the website, and be sure to call one of our very helpful staff members about what it takes to adopt any of the animals currently residing at the shelter. Be sure to check back next week to see what has been happening in our little part of the world.
