Musings from the Smalls Room By Curry (a rather cute guinea pig!)
What a week, it has taken me days to recover from what happened on Tuesday evening…….
As weeks go this one started out pretty normal, friends came and went. Like most weeks we had a couple of new arrivals, some new birds moved into the hallway, and we had a new bunny move into the smalls room. Howard arrived out of the blue on Tuesday morning, a good Samaritan had rescued him from behind a restaurant where he had been left. Well Howard was nice enough at first, truthfully, I suspect he was relishing the food and comfort of our little shelter, but that night we got to meet wild Howard. Now I know I am not much of a party animal, I mean let’s be honest I don’t really like parties at all, but Howard knew how to party! First, he escaped his cage, which is no mean feat. He proceeded to introduce himself to everyone in the room, but then it went seriously downhill. I don’t know how many parties he has attended, but spraying your pee all over the floor and walls is not my idea of fun! And don’t even get me started on the sheer volume of poop he managed to leave everywhere. Thankfully we were rescued from this walk on the wild side by one of those kindly humans that work here. They scooped up Howard and placed him back in his pen, with a blanket secured over the top so he wouldn’t be getting out again anytime soon. It was a lot for all of us, especially Grayson, one of my piggie friends, he has an open cage and I am pretty sure Howard hopped right on in there and peed!! Rudy, another bunny, seemed to bear the brunt of Howards attention, the wall behind his cage was covered with pee. We all survived to tell the tale, but I think I speak for all of us when I say we have never been more happy to see our volunteer cleaner arrive. Not a moment too soon, that mess on the floor needed immediate attention.
Now I know you all think that not much happens around here in the small’s room, but I hope this little tale is a reminder that we can hold our own in the fun and mess department against those cat’s and dog’s. Speaking of dogs, word on the street is that there is going to be an outside party on Saturday. Raising funds for all of us with the help of our dog contingent and all our dog loving humans. I hope they aren’t too loud, two parties in one week is a lot for us smalls to handle!
Now prepare yourselves because, I know this is going to be hard to believe, but something even more amazing happened this week…….
Pablo, a lovely large bunny who has been with only a few short weeks, was scheduled for his neuter appointment. I am confident when I say he was not exactly thrilled about the upcoming surgery, but we all do what we must to help control our population sizes. Anyway, I will cut to the chase. It would seem that Pablo is in fact a girl! Not sure how we or his previous owners missed that.
Have to leave it there for this week, so much going on here with all the set up for tomorrow it is hard to concentrate on writing anymore. I am going to share a video with you of my friends and I enjoying our breakfasts, hope you like it. I am sure I will have lots to report on next week, but as always check out all our available animals at the shelter, fill in an application and welcome home a new family member.
