Musings from the Smalls Room By Curry (a rather cute guinea pig!)

You would think that as a small local animal shelter that not much would happen around here, but as you have been reading over the past few weeks there is never a dull moment in our corner of Brockton. And this past week was no exception.

As I am sure many of you felt the wrath of the storm last week, and like us were probably without power. This is not a great experience for the animals and those that volunteer, first off some of our dogs are housed in a room that is lacking windows so when we have no power it is pretty dark in there. Our kitchen and garage/storage space also lack windows so flashlights were in order for several of our volunteers. Of course, not having power also meant that laundry wasn’t being done, but thankfully we didn’t have too many animals in residence so it didn’t reach overwhelming proportions. Now the small’s room is at the front of the building and we are lucky to have multiple windows so for the most part we didn’t really notice the lack of power.

Once the power was restored we moved onto our next shelter project … replacing all the lights in the building with new low energy bulbs, so now we are doing our bit for the environment too! It was not too much of a disruption, but having strangers in and out, up and down ladders, and banging around with the ceiling fixtures was a little unsettling for some of our smaller guests.

We had a new mom and her two little piggies arrive last week, but fingers crossed they have already found a new home. We also all said goodbye to a trio of guinea pigs that have been with us for a couple of months. On the rabbit front, Mocha, is meeting with a potential new family. News from the hallway is that all our birds have found new homes too. I don’t want to sound ungrateful because I do like it here, but I have now been here for eight months, I hope my family finds me soon.

Hope you like the pictures of us all here in the small’s room, if you think you might have a little room in your heart for a cute and fluffy friend please call and inquire about me or one of my many friends.
